Donkey Sanctuary Welfare Association (DSWA) is a developmental organisation that aims to integrate Animal welfare, Human welfare and environment protection to achieve “One Health” concept in all the interventions which is sustainable and long lasting. DSWA is a registered charitable organisation registered under indian companies act vide registration No 195395.

DSWA (started initially as Donkey Sanctuary India -DSI since 2000) aims to:

  • Improve the welfare of working equines by empowering the equine owning communities and bring in skills and experiences that are not available
  • Strengthen the system (animal health care delivery, disease surveillance, working equines welfare standards) by working in collaboration with Policy makers, Government animal husbandry department, local service providers, Research Institutes and Veterinary Universities
  • Improve the quality of life of the poor communities through better health, hygiene, education, infrastructure and livelihood.
  • Bring about a life lasting changes in the welfare of the equines and the people that depend on them for their livelihood
  • Highlight the importance of working equids and their contribution to the society, economy and Sustainable development Goals (SDG’s) like No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Decent Work and economic growth, Gender equality, Quality education, Climate action.
  • Raise awareness on environment protection i.e., to conserve water, cleanliness, waste disposal and proper sanitation, promote use of better fuel for firing the bricks to prevent harmful emissions, tree plantation etc

How You Can Help

By helping DSWA, you will be helping to make a real differnece to the lives of working equines and the people who depend on them in some of the poorest communities. Your generosity will help us to go a long way in enuring that we bring about long-term changes. Any donation, no matter how small, is always gratefully received and aknowledged. There are many ways you can help:

  • Give regular donation direct debits provide DSWA with a regular income allowing us to plan our work securely into the future
  • Fund-raising -organise fund raising events in your locality i.e., sports event, walkathlon or help us keep donation cards in Hotels/ restaurants, Book stores, supermarket.
  • Spread the word- please spread our work through print or electronic media, social networking sites /apps
  • Sponsorship- you may wish to adopt or sponsor a donkey in the farm for their feed, everyday care etc.
  • Donate for a particular cause i.e., Medicines, Harness material, Equine tools, Water troughs, IEC materials
  • Become a volunteer / supporter / provide consultancy service
  • The donations to DSWA are eligible for tax benefit under section 80 G of income tax of india.
